INTRODUCTION
A.
Backround
Every student has the ability to speak and
listening different because of the way the lesson. Students can do properly
when trying to talk a lot. Students in foreign language classes sometimes have
difficulty listening and speaking because they are afraid to make a mistake,
now students have a wide range of technology so advanced tools to study media
but still many students are difficult to talk by listening
to something, for example when the class teacher ask to the students to retell
a story that has been previously read by teachers, most of them are not able to
recount that they have listened to before. That is the problem in this research
plan, because there are many students who do not understand ways speak and
listen to a good, in this problem I will use treatment technology media is by
watching movies, whether students can improve their speaking and listening
ability. In this
research plan, I will use qualitative methods in the case study.
Heimei
(1997) states that students love movie because movie presentation is
interesting, challenging, and stimulating to watch. It also brings how people
behave in culture whose language they are learning into the classroom. It
enables students to have authentic experience in controlled environment. It is
also contextualizing language naturally by showing real life into the
classroom, it is necessary to conduct a classroom action research. This research
is originated with Kurt Lewin, an American psychologist, who introduced it in
educational research in the mid 1940s. Although the research is classified as
either quantitative or qualitative research, the method applied in this
research is qualitative methods. It allows us to describe what is happening and
to understand the effects of some educational intervention.
The principal foundations conducting this research
are to solve the identified problem and to understand the effects of some
interventions. These two principals are aimed to make improvement and to see
change.
Example research that my fetching it as almost
equal to research plan that I will make following, but in research example that
I takes from this Internet just has one skill just which is more focus on what
does its speaking skill using video, whereas in my research plan this following
it will work through two skill which is increases speaking and listening by
watches movie, really have resemblance among samples research that I take from
Internet with strategically research which say will make. In samples that
research works through about vocational school, can be seen that school
beginning to teach their student not only English languages for
specific-purpose, but also England common. This syllabus is designed to meet
the need students. Graduate from vocational school, largely student wants to
apply skill already they study. They shall qualify particular to get work.
One of stipubting is have skill that is equal to in
strange language in particular English language.English Language studying means
to study language component and language ability. Grammar, vocabulary,
uttering, and spelling are sample from language component. Whereas in my
research plan will work through in common about my title.
The benefits of this research is to improve self confidence
of students the learning process,
students can by understand what they have seen and listened to during the
learning process in the start by
using the movie, and students can answer questions given by the teacher teaching
what is already there in the movie.
The
purpose of this research so that
students do not feel afraid to
speak to the class especially on the subjects of foreign languages, and I want
to see how gradual learning process of students that will occur if this
treatment will be used on the
subjects of speaking and listening. and improve the quality of teaching learning process. It can be the
speaking class is more alive, innovative, and interesting when the researcher
implement movie as one of media in
class.
B. Research question
1
. How to increase speaking by watching movie
2. . Identify whether and to what extend the use of video movie is able to improve the students’ speaking competence
C. Research Objektive
1. To find how to teaching teachers increase speaking
by watching movies
2. Describe the
situation when the video movie is applied in
the speaking class.
D. Significance of Study
To improve their ability to speak
English especially in speaking and listening
Literature Review
In learning english increase
speaking by watching movie make a student had the pleasure of
watching movie, but every student has the ability to speak
different because of the way the lesson. Students can perform with good when trying to talk
a lot. Students in foreign language classes sometimes have difficulty speaking
because they are afraid to make a mistake. It supported the theory of Rhinehart (2012) “One of the best ways for improving
speaking skills for English language learners is through the movies. Movies
allow students to hear various dialects, accents, and tones of speech. Active
listening enhances understanding of vocabulary as well as various aspects of
literacy. Movies make language come alive. Students who enjoy
listening to their movie idols will enjoy the challenge of imitating their
idols speech. Imitation is the highest form of flattery; it is also a great way
to learn - think "modeling". Many movies are appropriate for all age
groups and English literacy levels. For instance, National Geographic movies
are usually appropriate for all school age students as well as adults. Disney
films are another example, fun to watch and easy to understand.
Pardiyono (2009) English is one of the languages that seem to be preferred by many people.
Not a few people are
flocking to get into college and
majored in education teaching English and English
literature. Those who enter
the realm of English also generally want to become an English teacher. as a
teacher, tutor, mentor,
or English teacher is also a promising job
and of course they have to master the technique of teaching English. This is implied by more growing globalization makes
English is essential and mandatory to be mastered by everyone especially students, and this is where the role of a teacher or English
teacher to give them the knowledge and good knowledge in understanding English. However, to become an English teacher to teach the origin is also not
merely convey information, and as a teacher, but also the skills and abilities necessary to establish conditions for effective teaching and learning techniques taught by English
speaking teachers for the students.
That way, the learning atmosphere
will be more relaxed and fun so that all
students will also be more easily
grasp the material.
Gunadi
(1983) students’ speaking competence, (a)students have ability to produce
accepted pronunciation; (b) students can perform well speaking activity in the
class such as making conversation and performing dialogue; (c) students can
express their ideas using appropriate words; (d) the students ability in
produce English expressions were grammatically; (e) the ability of the students
in expressing idea is increase, so they can speak English fluently.2) Improve the
classroom situation: (a) ) the participation of students in speaking class is
very high andactive in the class activities; (b) most of the students could do
the speaking turn by pointing to others speaking class; (c) the students shown
interest in the lesson; (d)most of the student did not use mother tongue in
speaking class, and; (e) the students’ have high enthusiasm during conducting
media for watching movie
The result of the
research showed that media for watching movie was beneficial to improve students’
speaking competence. It can be stated that the speaking class is more alive,
innovative, and interesting when the researcher implement media for watching
movie as one of media in speaking class.
To increase speaking
by watching movieit is best that the educator familiarize him/herself
with the film. The teacher should make a list of words, phrases that students
might have difficulty with or that might need explanation. Creating a
vocabulary handout prior to viewing the movie familiarizes the students with
words and phrases so that they do not need to struggle to deconstruct the
dialogue. After all, enjoying the movie is essential to developing strong
listening skills. It is also helpful to give the students some background on the
movie. The teacher can discuss things like the period around which the movie
was made.
METHODOLOGY
F. Method
In this research will use qualitative approach, Qualitative researchers
study things in their natural settings, attempting to make sense of, or to
interpret, phenomena in terms of the meanings people bring to them (Denzin
1994). Qualitative research is intended to penetrate to the deeper significance
that the subject of the research ascribes to the topic being researched. It
involves an interpretive, naturalistic approach to its subject matter and gives
priority to what the data contribute to important research questions or
existing information, and in this
qualitative approach using case study method In 2005 Lamnek state that case study should be defined as a research
strategy, an empirical inquiry that investigates a phenomenon within its
real-life context. Case study research can mean single and multiple case
studies, can include quantitative evidence, relies on multiple sources of
evidence, and benefits from the prior development of theoretical propositions.
Case studies should not be confused with qualitative research and they can be
based on any mix of quantitative and qualitative evidence. Single-subject
research provides the statistical framework for making inferences from
quantitative case-study data, study would be a study
leads us how to look at the process in a class that
we will thorough.
F.1 Site
This
research plan conducted in SMP Negeri 6 Gorontalo. It is located at Jalan jaksa
Agung Suprapto No. 24 Limba U2, Kecamatan Kota Selatan, Kota Gorontalo. This
school has twenty-seven rooms and other facilities, such as library,
mathematical and natural sciences laboratory, skill room, language laboratory,
computer laboratory and has teachers’ in the school. The total of the teachers
is twenty-five, Four teachers are English teachers. In the school has 1034
students at academic year.
G. Participant
Participant of this case study are using purposive sampling technique
is to take Participant of class in junior high school VIII.5 6 Gorontalo which
consists of 38 students, 25 boys
and 13 students girl take a sample of class
VIII because there are many students who can not speak and listen good, in
terms of their capabilities
in terms of speaking and listening
are still low.
I.3 Data collection
Instumen
Instrument is an instrument used to
record the information collected. Suharsimi Arikunto, 2009 Instrument can be used to make someone perform a task or achieve
goals effectively. The instrumen of research are observation instrument, video movies of class VIII B, and interviews the students
focus. First direct observation, observation is the basis for the
development of behavioral theory
and it is useful in
student behavior. Both are
video film is recorded
events or event in the form of audio-visual broadcasting. And the third is the recipient
theory research interviews.
Students generally focus on the process of movie watching and understanding.
Prosedures
Ibnu Syamsi (1994) procedure
are the work of a closely related recording
that includes a sub-function
rather than a specific
function. Then the procedure
can also mean a
sequence of clerical activity
that usually involves several people in a treatment.
In this research, data retrieval using 3 instruments like observation, video movie
and interview students.
In doing direct observation should
include the time, location of
observation, what is to be observed, and how
the learning model going to look at the process. All should be specific, other than that the media will look at observation
the students, no direction on what to observe
and record the
time observation hold. Then researchers will begin
observes, researchers will first visit the school and
decide who will be in class VIII.5 observation, researchers directly see
English teacher for permission to observe the process will
learn to speak. After researchers in preparing classroom instructional media will be available to students in the class VIII.5 who
have planned ahead of time and
explain to them what I would do on this opportunity. Furthermore, the researchers made a list of names of students who will be in the interview
and should be the focus, and the researchers created some notes results of interviews.
K.5 Data Analysis
In this research I will use Interpretative Phenomenological
Analysis.Wikipedia (1996) are an approach to psychological qualitative research
with an idiographic focus, which means that it aims to offer insights into how
a given person, in a given context, makes sense of a given phenomenon. Usually
these phenomena relate to experiences of some personal significance - such as a
major life event, or the development of an important relationship. It has its
theoretical origins in phenonemology and hermeneutics, and key ideas from
Husserl, Heidegger, and Merleau-Ponty are often cited. IPA one of several
approaches to qualitative, phenomenological psychology Phenomenology
(psychology). It is distinct from other approaches because of its combination
of psychological, interpretative, and idiographic components.
L.6 Validity
In this
research will use a technique triangulation.Triangulation are validity checker uses data from
other sources. This technique will find some validity is to compare the data
and interviews focused on students in the classroom observation, comparing to what most people say
and tell students appropriate his personality, find a comparison of the results
of interviews with the students or the documents they received theory regarding
the topic.
